Akiko Tanaka was born in Shima, Japan and spent her youth exploring the wilderness areas of Ise-Shima National Park. She originally studied gemology at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, USA and completed Graduate Gemologist, Graduate Jeweler and Jewelry Design Program. And then she studied art at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan. She was also learned floral arrangement from her mother. In 2009 she started to create the original style of collage art with gemstones and artificial flowers. Her work “Peace of us” was selected in the first Harmony for Peace Competition online exhibition in 2011. Around that time, she named her original collage as ‘Clearing Gem Art’. She has had solo shows in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Ise, also exhibited at group shows in London and Paris.
She also gives floral and collage art classes at her studio in Shima, Japan.
